About the Lawyer House


The "Lawyer House" was built in 1900 by Dr. Grant Lawyer, an Iowa City dentist. It was a private residence until 1971.

The Lawyer House obtained local fame when Grant Lawyer's business sign, which read: "Doctor Lawyer, Dentist," was published in a 1931 edition of Ripley's Believe It or Not!.

In 1994, renovation began on the building earning an award from The Iowa City Historic Preservation Society.



The Lawyer House is a beautiful, comfortable place that our clients enjoy visiting.
